Wood sandpiper

Characteristics

The wood sandpiper has a black-brown back with white spots. When the birds walk, their tail rapidly wiggles up and down. They are highly cautious animals, and entire flocks will fly away noisily when sensing danger. They are often seen in seedbeds where seeds have just been sowed.
Habits: The wood sandpiper mainly feeds on small fish, shrimp, frogs, and small invertebrates.
Winter/Common; Body length: 22 cm
Birdwatching period: September-April
